Kristine wanted to create a space with modern, clean lines while preserving warmth and functionality.  As a bachelor, Romero wanted to maintain a sense of masculinity in his new home while preserving the polished elegance that resonates through much of the Back Bay neighborhood. Mullaney fully renovated the condo and designed the space in keeping with Romero’s unique aesthetic.

All of  the art has had been carefully selected. Abstract expressionist paintings in the Living and Dining rooms are both by John Palmer. Selected because of the movement in the pieces and color pop that they give. All collections such as the intaglios, the Roman Fountain Prints in the bedroom and Paris Opera prints in the Master bedroom were found at local antique shops and beyond by Mullaney.

The furnishings serve as a veritable world tour through centuries and across continents. Romero’s vast array of interests; history, Italy, Paris, fencing, Roman history,  and reading help to inform the decor. Ironically, the custom bedding motif on Romero’s custom bedding is called “Roman Key” – selected from three choices, with Romero not knowing the names of the prints. In the study, in addition to Romero’s immense collection of books, adding elements such as a pair of elegant 1950 French  chrome and black leather curule-form armchairs — with original leather that has acquired a great patina –  with a collection of Intaglios.  The Dining Room features an 18th Century Bamboo monk script, that hangs vertically in an ultra modern Lucite and stainless steel bolted frame.

Our clients wanted a casual and fresh approach to this traditional center entrance colonial. Mostly neutrals, with graphic prints and pops of color keep this living room fresh – the white chairs, and antique head chairs, in the otherwise traditional dining room are unexpected and fun.

This one bedroom condo needed closet space, something feminine, dramatic and beautiful. Dorothy Draper style doors for the built inʼs and the silver floral wallpaper, is like stepping into a 1930ʼs diva’s boudoir.

We wanted the to living room to be fun and inviting, still the client wanted each piece to have itʼs own personality. Not a room you’re afraid to put your feet up in.

This Back Bay condo has a small configuration. Figuring out how to utilized the space with smaller scale furniture was the first challenge. This young couple needed furniture quickly for this investment property, so most of the pieces are retail finds – except the art and the lighting. Punches of color add an element of fun to this otherwise minimalist space.
